What is Mbps

Mbps stands for Mega Bits per second (means millions of bits per second). It is used to state the number of bits of data that can flow through a network connection or can be used to represent the bandwidth (bandwidth means total amount of data flow over a given time period) of a network connection on a telecommunication medium. It states the number of bits of data that can flow through a network connection. View More....

What is IP or Internet Protocol

Internet Protocol is an address of a Computer on a network. An IP address is a 32 bit address. The IP addresses are unique i.e. no two Computers, connected to the internet can have same IP addresses. IP addresses when started used the concept of classes. This architecture is called class-full addressing. In the mid of 1990s, a new architecture was introduced and was called classless addressing and eventually superseded the original architecture. However, part of the Internet is still using class-full addressing, but the migration is very fast. In classless addressing variable-length blocks are assigned that belong to no class. In this architecture, the entire address space (232 or 4,294,967,296 addresses) is divided into blocks of different sizes. Class-full addressing is a special case of classless addressing. What is Internet Bandwidth

Bandwidth is basically the amount of data actually transferred over a fixed period of time between a Computer and the internet. It is often measured in KB (Kilo Byte) or GB (Gega Byte). An Internet Service provider always sells the plans based upon the speeds, and hence limits bandwidth to certain extent according to the plans. The more the bandwidth the service provider will be providing, more the rate or price of the plan will be and faster the connection will be. View More....

What is DWDM

DWDM stands for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing. DWDM is a technology used to increase the capacity of Fiber Optics that results in faster transfers of data. As the Fiber optics are very thin and small fibers that are used to transmit data and light throughout a Computer and network that’s why increasing its capacity is very beneficial. View More.....

What is Dual Core Technology

Dual core technology is basically putting two processors on a single chip. Dual Core Processor is between a single core processor and a dual processor system for architecture. Dual core technology has two processors but it does not mean that it will be providing double performance in all the areas to the user. It has two cores but shares some of the hardware like the memory controller and bus while a dual processor system has completely separate hardware and shares nothing with the other processor. What is Data Transfer Rate

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be transmitted from one device to another. Data Rate is basically commonly used to measure how fast data is transferred from one location to another. Data Rates are often measured in megabits (Mbps) or megabytes (Mbps) per second. (‘b’ in Mbps means bits and ‘B’ in MBps means bytes). This rate is basically compared to flow of traffic. Data transfer rate is subject to problems as well. It is the amount of data per unit time which can move across input output bus when executing an input output load. View More....

What is BCC

BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. BCC is used in sending emails. The main feature of BCC is that it sends Email to multiple recipients without disclosing the individual emails addresses. When a person sends same email to a number of recipients, then it is the usual practice of the customer to send it in To: field by using comma or semi colon. But when the email is sent in this way, each receiver is able to see the complete list of recipient email addresses to which the same message is being sent to. BCC option allows hiding recipients in email messages i.e. the receiver will not be able to see the list of recipient email addresses. Thus using BCC is a smart way to protect the privacy of the recipients. View More....

What is an Extranet

Extranet is a communication tool designed to enable easy information sharing within the work-groups. Extranet is basically a Computer network that allows controlled access from the outside for specific business or educational purposes. It is actually an Intranet that is partially accessible to authorized outsiders. View More.....

What is a Wireless Router

Router is needed to link several computers together into a network. It is a type of networking equipment. These are used for interconnection among computers within the network and also allow sharing of other resources. A wireless router is a router with a wireless interface and has the utilities of a wireless access point (WAP). It act as the gateway to the internet or a local Computer network without opting for any wired connection although it works the same as wired one. It can work in a number of ways which can be a cabled LAN (local area network) or only wireless network or a combination of both. View More....

What Is a USB Router

Router is needed to link several computers together into a network. It is considered as a type of networking equipment. Routers are used for interconnection among computers within the network and also allow sharing of other resources. What is a Thin Client

A Thin Client sometimes means hardware or a software element. It is basically a Computer in client server architecture and has almost no application logic i.e. it is dependent mostly on central server for processing. It generally refers to user devices whose functionality is reduced or minimized. This is done either to reduce cost of ownership or to provide more mobility and flexibility to the owner. What is a Search Engine

A Search Engine is an online tool which helps the users in finding the web sites or the information which they are looking for. The users of the World Wide Web find it easy to search the information on a search engine then remembering or going through each and every Web site related to their need. Some famous search engines are of Google, Bing, and Yahoo etc… View More....

What is a Packet Sniffer

Sniffing, in normal language means sensing something and here too it has the same meaning. Data flows through the network lines just like oxygen through air, pulling out critical data packets from these networks is called packet sniffing. This data may contain usernames or passwords, sent and received emails or it can be any data that flows through the network. View More...

What Is a Multi-User Operating System

Multi-User operating systems allow multiple users to use the resources on a single Computer simultaneously or at different times. It allows many different users to take advantage of the computer's resources simultaneously. Some operating systems permit hundreds or even thousands of concurrent users. Examples of multi user operating systems are Linux, UNIX, Windows 2000, V MS and mainframe operating systems etc…View More...

What Is a Laptop Inverter

An inverter is used to convert Direct Current (DC) to Alternating Current (AC). The laptop inverter is located in the LCD cover assembly which is closed by LCD itself. It is encased by the framework of the screen and is not visible until and unless the plastic outer border around the screen is removed. View More....

What is a Hard Copy

Hard copy is the copy that is printed (can be printed pages or copies or any document) and can also be touched physically. It makes it easy for the person to read out whatever needs to be communicated. Hard copies are much reliable as through these copies the information can be retained even after a longer period of time and hence are used for many different purposes. Soft copies refer to digital formats of a document (can be a Word document or PDF or on any CD etc...) View More....

What is a DSL Modem

A DSL Modem is used to deliver high speed communication. DSL modem is a base-band modem i.e. modulator/ demodulator modem. It is used for short distance inter connection. A DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) modem is used to connect to a cable or DSL router. DSL routers are basically Ethernet switches or wireless gateways with built in routing functionality. Thus, they need to be paired with a DSL modem. View More...

What Is a Cyber-Attack

Cyber-attack is an attempt to gain control to the Computer and track the movements of an individual or a group without their permission. These attacks have now become new weapons for any country because these attacks can even damage national banks or can misuse anyone’s personal information. This is also known as Cyber Warfare (or Cyber terrorism). At least twenty countries are believed to be developing offensive and defensive cyber warfare capabilities. View More....

What Is a Binary File

Binary File is a file on the Computer that stores information. But the information stored in these files is stored in a certain code on the computer. The data on these files is stored in the form of binary data i.e. only 0s and 1s. Binary File is also sometimes referred as a file which is not directly readable by the human as most of the characters in the file do not translate to viewable text characters. View More...

What is a Bandwidth Limit

A Bandwidth is basically the amount of data actually transferred over a fixed period of time between a Computer and the internet. It is often measured in MB or GB. A bandwidth limit can be exceeded or lacked behind as it depends upon the amount of data transferred over a network. It is the limit, when reached; then accessing the internet does not work. As the data transfer is mostly calculated on a monthly basis, the monthly limit if crossed or the total amount of data that the user visited by viewing or downloading from the web site does not work if bandwidth limit is reached.
